Cold wave in India

A severe cold wave is sweeping across India, causing significant disruptions and health concerns in multiple states.

Delhi-NCR:

The national capital is experiencing its fourth consecutive cold day, with temperatures plummeting and dense fog reducing visibility to zero. The Air Quality Index (AQI) remains in the ‘Very Poor’ range, exacerbating health risks for residents.

In Lucknow, the capital city, temperatures have dropped significantly, with cloudy conditions prevailing. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of dense fog in isolated areas, which could disrupt transportation and daily activities.

Rajasthan:

Jaipur is witnessing a cold wave with temperatures falling below normal. Hazy sunshine is expected over the next few days, but the chill in the air remains a concern for residents.

Madhya Pradesh:

Bhopal is experiencing pleasant daytime temperatures; however, nighttime temperatures have dipped, leading to cooler conditions. The IMD has predicted hazy sunshine in the coming days, with no immediate relief from the cold wave.

Maharashtra:

Mumbai continues to enjoy relatively warmer temperatures compared to northern states. However, the state has not been entirely spared, with certain regions experiencing a drop in temperatures, prompting residents to take necessary precautions.

Impact on Power Demand:

The cold wave has led to a surge in power demand across North India, as residents use heating appliances to combat the chill. This increased demand is putting additional pressure on the power supply infrastructure.

Health Advisory:

Residents in affected areas are advised to:

  • Limit outdoor activities, especially during early morning and late evening hours.
  • Wear appropriate warm clothing to prevent hypothermia.
  • Use heating appliances safely to avoid fire hazards.
