Nepal, one of the culturally diverse country of the world, is the country’s which has its’ rolls on Hindu and Buddh. Key aspects include:

Different ethnic groups and cultures of Nepal are a source of traditional dresses of the country are very colorful and diverse. Here’s a glimpse into the traditional attire for both females and males in Nepal:

Traditional Dress for Females

  • Saree: Another beautiful and most frequently used Nepali traditional dress for women is saree. It is a piece of cloth, ranging in length which is worn and arranged loosely on the body. Sarees can be made of different materials, can be of different color combinations and patterns and are traditionally decorated with multiple stitches or stones or beads.
  • Kurta Salwar: Another sophisticated traditional dress is the kurta salwar in which a long piece of garment, called kurta, is worn together with loose trousers, the salwar. This clothing is comfortable and mainly used during informal occasions.
  • Ghagra Choli: Nepali traditional dress is somewhat prevalent but predominant in some districts of the Terai area of Nepal. It consists of a loose, full brief garment or skirt (the ghagra) and a fitting or tightworn breast-lets (the choli). He further added that the ghagra is flashy with bright color and may be embroidered but the choli is either plain or studded.
  • Dhaka Topi: Some Nepali women like to wear jewellery and accessories alongside the costume and they use dishes topi, a traditional Nepali cap. It is a cylindrical headgear cap made from woven cloth with body part weaving and usually decorated by beautiful patterns and colours.

   Traditional Dress for Males

  • Daura Suruwal: The men of Nepal use daura suruwal as their national dress.. It is a knee-length garment called daura and trousers known as suruwal with a liberal fit round the thigh part. The colourful daura is usually white cotton with beautiful silver buttons from bottom of the chest to the waist.
  • Pakhe: The pakhe another Nepali traditional dress , is a long shirt that is loose and billows. It’s worn on the chest and is usually made from cotton or silk and can be unadorned or have material embroidery.
  • Dhoti: Though they are not as common as in other states, a dhoti, a long piece of cloth worn by drawing it around the waist and legs by some men is seen in some parts of Nepal. It is a smooth and standard wear, sometimes used in religions and other cultural events and functions or as a ceremonial wear.
  • Topi: Nepali men also prefer to dress the topi which is unique Nepalese headdress. In fact, there are various types of topis related with various regions and ethnic groups. Some of them are Bangladesh topi, Bhaadgaale topi and Gurkha topi.

That is why it is appropriate to mention that the traditional Nepalese clothing represents a very vast field owing to the ethnic diversity in the country. As mentioned earlier, there are many more regional variations and other ethnic group outfits that are in circulation in the country.
